Fiocruz, which serves as the Executive Secretariat of the Global Coalition for Local and Regional Production, Innovation and Equitable Access, presented the initiative on the 17th of this month to representatives of the countries that make up the G7. During a meeting of the bloc’s health working group, held at the headquarters of the French Ministry of Health, the Coalition was detailed and well received by participants.

In general, G7 countries expressed support for the Coalition, highlighting its focus on neglected diseases, equity, interregional cooperation, and the strengthening of production and innovation. Among non-member countries, there were also expressions of support for the Coalition’s objectives.

One of Brazil’s proposals during its rotating presidency of the G20 was the creation of the Global Coalition for Local and Regional Production, Innovation and Equitable Access, aimed at addressing research and development needs and ensuring access to both new and existing antibiotics to treat resistant infections. In May of this year, the initiative was formally launched during the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
